The complete Airbnb & VRBO turnover cleaning checklist.
A turnover is a hotel-grade reset on a deadline. This is the exact room-by-room checklist we run on short-term rentals across Table Rock Lake, written so a host, a co-host, or a new cleaner can follow it and earn five stars every time.
A complete Airbnb or VRBO turnover follows a fixed order: strip and start laundry first, work top-to-bottom and back-to-front through every room, reset the kitchen and bathrooms to a sanitized hotel standard, restock all consumables, then do a final staging and photo walkthrough. Done in order, a one to two bedroom cabin turns in about 90 minutes to two hours.
Start the laundry first
The single biggest time sink in a turnover is waiting on laundry. The moment you walk in, strip every bed and gather all towels, then start the first load before you touch anything else. While it runs, you clean. This one habit is the difference between a 90 minute turn and a three hour one.
Kitchen reset checklist
- Run or empty the dishwasher; hand-wash and put away anything left in the sink
- Wipe counters, backsplash, stovetop and the front of every appliance
- Clean inside the microwave and check the oven and fridge for spills and leftovers
- Empty and reline the trash and recycling
- Restock coffee, filters, dish soap, sponges, paper towels and trash liners
- Reset the coffee station and check that every mug, plate and pan is clean and in place
Bathroom reset checklist
- Scrub and sanitize the toilet, tub, shower and sink
- Polish the mirror and chrome; squeegee any glass
- Hang fresh, hotel-folded towels and a fresh bath mat
- Restock toilet paper (two rolls minimum), soap, shampoo and tissues
- Empty the trash and wipe the floor last, working out the door
Bedrooms and living areas
- Make every bed hotel-tight with fresh, fully dried linens
- Check under beds and between cushions for guest belongings and trash
- Dust surfaces, nightstands, lamps, ceiling fans and window sills
- Reset remotes, chargers, books and decor to their photographed positions
- Vacuum carpets and rugs, then mop hard floors back-to-front
Table Rock Lake house extras
Lake rentals have a few items a city condo never will. Build these into every turn during boating season:
- Sweep and wipe down decks, patios and outdoor furniture
- Shake out and restock beach towels separately from bath towels
- Check the grill, fire pit and any provided coolers or life jackets
- Wipe sliding glass doors and tracks that collect lake-season pollen and bugs
The final walkthrough and photo report
Stand in each doorway and look at the room the way a guest will when they first walk in. Lights off, then on. Smell test. Then photograph every reset room. Those photos protect you in a damage dispute and prove the property was guest-ready at handoff. Note anything low on supplies or in need of maintenance and send it to the host the same day.
